It’s Not Only Horror by Zach Sweets

Thorny and I shared some email exchanges and he admitted he hadn’t read Zombie Rain because he doesn’t do well with horror. I’m here to convince him that Zombie Rain is not limited to horror and there are plenty of plots where it’s not so scary.

As quoted from one of the reviewers:

“Erotica because there is explicit sex, and in my view very well done. It’s not a sex without plot story. The scenes are in the right moments, to both Jake and Rex. Jake is gay, Rex Isn’t. Both men running and fighting for their lives will get closer, and maybe it will surprise you how fast it will happen…well I wasn’t. In a situation of the end of the world I have no idea how I would react. How much I would want human contact…how much, I would be able to forget the past, living the freaking scary present. Jake and Rex lose everything, but find each other…so I think it’s plausible that they would connect so fast. If it’s love or not you must read to know. Yeah, I’m a teaser…I know.”

Yes, you read that right! There are a couple of erotica scenes in Zombie Rain. Apparently romance exists everywhere under any type of circumstances. I can totally picture myself if I were in their shoes, I’d want to feel something for someone again before my life is lost to the world. It’s an apocalypse for goodness’s sake. Men or women do get horny; therefore Jake and Rex did get horny in the book. The relationship between Jake and Rex did go a bit fast but what did you really expect? If you were in their shoes, would you actually refuse to have feelings for anyone that’s with you along the journey in the apocalypse world? I most certainly wouldn’t. I’d live everyday as it was my last, which means I would seek comfort from a friend and possibly grow strong feelings for a certain person. In Zombie Rain, it is a story where two complete strangers meet each other and both of them lost their families. Jake lost his son and Rex lost his whole family. In only few days, they grew closer together and eventually slept together. Rex was straight but after approaching the end of the world, sexual preferences don’t exist. That’s just my perspective.

Here’s a short snippet of a nice non-scary scene:

Rex climbed up the access ladder then came over and sat down beside me. He stared out into the distance. His silence was killing me and I had to break it. “Something wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong. It’s just that…” He paused briefly. “I miss how we sort of clicked. I feel like we were friends, then I made a huge mistake and it cost us our, I don’t know, friendship? I miss it.” He tilted his head down, sadness evident on his face.

“Me too, Rex. Me too. I was thinking about that. We’ve been like strangers these last few days. There’s no one else out here, and I’m lonely.” I wasn’t sure if I should touch him or nothing. I ended up just barely touching his leg.

Do you really want to know what Rex had done that nearly cost their friendship? Grab the book and find out. ;) Anyway, my point is, Zombie Rain wasn’t all about zombie and horror. It’s about how Jake and Rex survived together and how they built their friendship. Yes, there are certain scenes that may have either scared you or grossed you out. Still, it can be a book for anyone to enjoy without being grossed out.

So, Thorny, do you have the guts to put yourself in a challenge and try Zombie Rain out? :D

  3. I am not a huge horror fan either. Zombie Rain is MUCH more relaxed in the horror department than some other works I have read from Sweets. I had to ask if there was any nipple cutting in this piece before editing it. I think Sweets has scared the ever loving panties off me when it comes to his horror work;) LOL! I guess I should say bra instead! I love pieces that are outside my comfort zone. They make me think, feel, and react differently. I am so in love with Zach Sweets!

    • LOL, yes I remember you asking me that ;D I still need to get back to that horror saga and that one won’t be good for people who don’t do well with horror. Zombie Rain, on other hand, is softer on horror side :D :D *hugs*
