School Ate My Brain

Like the title says, I think school ate my brain. I’ve been trying to think of something to say in here and it’s totally been nothing by a flat line.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

And then there was this tiny little sound that had everyone looking at the monitor, waiting for a blip.

This is getting morbid.

OK, so, I’m going to ask how are YOU doing? What are YOU up to lately? Got summer vacation plans? Big project at work? Seen anything good online lately?

Uh… Hot enough for ya?

Authors, what are you writing or releasing right now? (Yeah, total pimpage opportunity, take advantage!)

Sweartagod… There’s really no brain. At all. Maybe I need to ask Jazz to give me something to do… Oh hey. My brain might be malfunctioning, but south of the border’s working fine {hehehe} ;)

Family Updates

We’ve moved Grams in with Edgar and Dad has the house to himself. The house is on the market now. I’m not happy about that part. I’ve known for a while now that it was going to be someone else’s home soon, but it hasn’t gotten any easier to deal with. This isn’t the first time I’ve lost a home — the one my parents had before Mom died was sold eventually — and it’s not technically mine anymore, but yeah, I don’t want to lose it. Jazz says I might feel differently after spending enough time there with Grams moved and then again once it’s actually empty. We’ll see.

On the baby front, everyone’s started taking bets on when Abby will deliver the twins. Abby would happily take the bet on “any minute now” because she’s “so done”. I’ve witnessed the baby foot poking out her stomach and can completely agree with her that I’d be so done once that started happening too. Miracle of life? Sure, but I’ve also seen “Alien” thanks. My money’s on Mother’s Day since it’s sort of half-way to the real due date, twins always come early, and why not.

School-wise, next week is exams. YAY! Not yay for exams, but yay for this semester finally being over. It wasn’t a terrible semester, but I’ve had more fun at the dentist. Mostly because of that speech class from hell. Turns out I don’t like public speaking no matter the subject and this audience wasn’t my favorite group of people either. And I don’t like people critiquing how I talk because no, you slimy slug of a student, I won’t “butch it up” when discussing the oh so manly topic of football. It’s not acting class, so I’ll be me behind the podium.

Anyway… I don’t really have anything planned to talk about next week, so if there’s a post it’ll be totally random. If there’s nothing, it’s just because I’m busy or recovering. Alec and Jazz are free to post if they like, but I don’t know if they’ve got plans to do that.

So until next time, go read something with smexy boys doin’ it with cops, firemen, aliens or angels. I’ve been reading The Gifted One by Jacob Flores and can I just say Craig with Matt? Dude, niiiiiice ;)

Very Effective Oral Communication

English Composition II

This is the other half of the one I already took. It’s all about essays. Then talking about essays. Then reading essays. Then reading about writing essays. Then more essays. Sometimes it’s interesting, mostly it’s not difficult, though coming up with yet another topic will eventually suck. I’m carrying around a little booklet anyway for story ideas now, but there’s a section in the back for these frickin’ essays.

Beginning French II

Blah blah blah, oui oui oui. It’s not bad either, just more vocabulary and different situations. I’ve heard that the next set of Intermediate classes has the prof speaking nothing but French. I’m not sure if it’s a rumor or a promise, but I’m way better with speaking it than writing it, so I’m not worried about that. I was thinking about practicing writing more by actually writing a short story in French, but then decided not to traumatize my French teacher. Besides, there are probably phrases even Google Translate doesn’t know what to do with.

Effective Oral Communication

Speech class! I tried so hard not to have to take this, but it’s required too. I DO NOT LIKE PUBLIC SPEAKING! I sweat — not like a cute glow, but like give the guy a towel kind of sweat — and I clear my throat a lot. There’s a muscle in my thigh that twitches the whole time I’m standing up there too. So far we’ve only had to do these intro speeches all about us, but OMG it doesn’t help that I know my subject because I nearly forgot my name. (Seriously, I almost said Thorny Sterling.) And the very first day, for God’s sake, I couldn’t stop thinking about an “oral communication” I’m really good at…with an audience of one husband…while on my knees…and then I had to get up and introduce myself. Anyway, I’m thinking I’ll try and coordinate my endless essays with speech writing to save some of my sanity.

Foundation Drawing I

This is the really fun one. I’ll get up in the morning for this class. I can sketch something out that I’ll then paint over, but this is all about the drawing. Pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, and pen and ink. Plus, except for the conte crayon, it’s all black and white! Now I know you all say that it’s fine and art if I just use color any way I want, but I caught a lot of flack for it in high school from a teacher I know is a douche for what she did. That’s hard to get over and, though I’m working on it, it still creeps up and, with black and white, I can just let go and make art. No hang-ups. It’s also nice to be back in the Art Department and visiting everyone.

US History to 1877

Guess who’s totally stoked that I’m in this class? :) Yep, Jazz is following the syllabus right along with me and oh is he excited. I’m all, I know how this story ends, and he’s all, but isn’t it just fascinating?! Swear to God, if I came home and said we were going to do a pageant about the presidents, he’d make my costume. He does know a lot that isn’t even in the book, so I figured I was just going to knock my prof’s socks off with how much extra information I’ve got going on here. And then came the moment where Mr. Professor like rented out my husband by telling the whole class he’s there in the library to help them too. {pout} He’s my resource, dammit! I mean, it’s not like I’m going to pee on him or anything, but he’s going to save the really good stuff for the guy who gives him very effective oral communication, thanksverymuch.

Making It & Making Plans

I survived my first week as a full-time student! :D

Well, nearly so since it’s Thursday night and not Friday for me yet, but baring an asteroid slamming Ohio, I think I’ll make it safely into the weekend.

Most wonderfully I managed to do all my homework in between classes or in the evenings so that my weekend is actually free to DO WHATEVER I WANT! (Amazing what you can accomplish when you don’t have a job!) And, oh, do I have plans…

  • Jazz will be kicking off the weekend with his scrumbdilliumptious lasagna and we will have wine with it too ;)
  • Friday night and Saturday morning will be spent ravishing my husband — you have been warned.
  • The Family Channel is having a marathon of Disney movies like Cinderella and Aladdin on Saturday afternoon; I have already begun planning out the nest I will occupy in front of the TV for the duration and shall not be disturbed (except for appropriately timed kisses).
  • In between and possible all day Sunday, I will read books. I’ve barely made a dent in my Christmas books and now there are even more new books to read. (The exception was Anne Tenino’s Too Stupid To Live. I loves my Anne.)

That’s my plans and I’m sticking to ‘em! :)

Oh! Stop by on Sunday for a 6-Sentence featuring more about Splinters. Hint: I used my private journal entry as research… ;)

Busy Boy Back to School

yawning smilie

I’m writing this Sunday night because I’ll be back in school for all the lovely first day hassles bright and shiny Monday morning.

Well, early Monday morning. I may not be completely bright and shiny that close to sunrise.

Anyway, this will mean a potentially quiet week from me — and not sure if Jazz or Alec are going to come out and play at all. I need to figure out how my schedule will really work and where my down time actually gets to be spent not doing schoolwork.

In other news, though, I made a very nice dent in the word count for Splinters as well as making some really significant progress on the plotting and character development. I seriously thought I had Grand Canyon-like plot holes, but they’re all filled in now. It’s got that nice new pavement feeling going for the moment. Unfortunately, I’ll be coasting on that for a while as I settle into a full-time student life. I’ll probably poke at it or read through it and pat myself on the back for how brilliant I am ;)

So wish me luck that my profs don’t bore me into a coma!

Ketchup

I’m spelling it like that because I got a text from Alec once and he wrote “let’s get together and ketchup soon” :)

Exams

So my exams are over and I should soon know exactly how I did. My feelings are that I did well, not great, but nice. Though my broken wrist didn’t knock me out of passing, it did make it so I just “passed” and didn’t actually get a grade in those classes. This doesn’t mean I have to take Archery and Bowling again, just that they didn’t really do anything for my GPA. I did get the units, so that’s good because I’m a planning to make it to being a sophomore by the end of spring semester ;)

Next Semester

In the spring, I’ll be taking classes in English, French, Speech, US History, and Drawing. (Jazz is calling me his Renaissance Man and is adorably giddy for when we get to the Civil War in my history class–he’s already read the book to make sure it’s “good”.) I’ll also be a full-time student again since I’m taking 17 units, which is up from the 12 I took this semester. It shouldn’t be too bad. I hope 8O

Employment

I may or may not have something to say about my job soon. There are things going on that make me wonder if I’ll have one for the rest of this year, let alone come January. It’s nothing I’ve done, not getting fired, but I’ve heard and seen a few things that make me wonder if the position will still be available at all. I know I won’t be giving them a whole lot of hours come spring, but the solution there was to get another student to fill-in. Now I’m not sure what might happen. I’m not completely worried or anything because the money I bring in isn’t strictly necessary to our comfort and all that. If nothing else, not working will let me concentrate on school work more…and on writing Splinters ;)

Art

Thank you all so much for your words about my paintings last week! :D I really appreciate everything you said, even though I look at them and cringe a little. I know, artists never like their stuff as much as others do, but I really can’t help it. The Julia Falls one is kind of muddled and the guy looks like he has fur instead of skin. But, anyway, I’m really glad you liked them and I’m all kinds of tickled that my Jazz thinks I’m a genius ;) I’ll be taking a drawing class that’s a prerequisite before all painting classes, so I’m hoping my self-taught work will really start to improve.
